A visit to this reserve today produced my first Noisy Friarbird of the season, although it wasnt living up to its name.
The Rainbow Lorikeet reported by Alastair was still around. I was standing under the large gum it was perched in. Then it flew to a neighbouring tree in a deep downward flight just over my head and back up. As i watched it for some 10 seconds it suddenly flew down again at speed almost knocking my head off. It landed some 50 metres away in a low Red Box where it associated with a Noisy Miner and some Crimson Rosellas. I didnt notice it feeding like the other birds and seemed to be following a Rosella around.
Any comments on this behaviour? Its whole behaviour was more of an escapee than a wild bird in my mind.
Also heard a Corella calling, but couldnt find it.

And last night had a Boobook calling at my place in Ngunnawal.

Cheers
Marnix
