Shaun
That is great to know.
Last year I saw a pair of crescent honeyeaters in the same
spot (lower Sydney gully) in October.
Although I went a couple of months ago to look for
them, the Sydney gully region was fenced off and I couldnt get
in.

On a walk in the Botanic Gardens at lunchtime today
came across a male Crescent Honeyeater, in full cry, feeding in low bushes and
wattle trees across from the lower end of the Sydney Region Gully. Active, noisy
and easy to see. Only contestant was a Satin Bowerbird (imm?) which was also
pretty vocal for a while in flowering wattles (baileyana?) above.
Right at the bottom of the gully by the base of the
angophora amongst the ferns saw a bird which I can only surmise was a fledgling
Crescent Honeyeater, not being experienced enough in this area yet. Clearly not
skilled at flying, too big for offspring of usual resident ES or NH honeyeaters,
crouching in that not yet sure what the world is about style that very young
birds have. Clearly visible were large yellow wing patches, white eyebrow, grey
upper and whitish underparts with streaking on throat/chest. Most obvious was
pinkish base of bill and way bird held its head back with bill tipped up as if
waiting to be fed. Lost sight of it as it flew/crashed into ferns.
On way back to car park along Main Path flushed the
first Bronzewing I've seen in the gardens for a while.
