I disagree with Benjamin's assessment that the Tid "wetlands area was not very affected by the fires and the waterbirds were OK". I saw them on 24 January 2003 and the surrounds were burnt to ground level, and reed beds down to the water. At the time I was astonished that the few surviving water birds had done so. (Which doesn't of course help with the question of the Daffies.)
