Regarding the much-discussed elusiveness of the Yellow-tufted Honeyeater as
something of a challenge, I checked the Newline and adjacent paddocks on
Thursday, but found conditions not particularly good for honeyeaters (only
White-plumed). However, this morning I found one at Kelly Road, favouring
mainly an Apple Box by the road about 80m S of the gate to the TSR.
Two coincidences may be worth mentioning. The first is that I was on this
occasion again accompanied by an American visitor - as when the bird was
found at Newline last winter. The second coincidence, perhaps of more
interest from a biological viewpoint, is that the bird was (as at the
Newline paddock - and as for the ANG one, I understand) associated with
Fuscous Honeyeaters. There certainly seem to be more Fuscous around than
usual. I found Fuscous in Kings Park on Wednesday (while setting an
orienteering course, just so you don't get the impression I do nothing but
look for Yellow-tufted Honeyeaters). They were also near Mugga Lane earlier
this month.
