Frances and I went for a foray upstate today to walk in the woods beside the Hudson.  Very pleasant it was too, also the cleansing ale afterwards.  While partaking of that beverage, I happened to glance at the front page of the Poughkeepsie Journal on the bar: the lead story was about turtle habitat!

It emerges that if cattle are prevented from grazing the borders of swamps bog turtles cannot breed there.  So the farmers whose land borders some swamps are going to get assistance to shift their fences to the waterline to from better turtle habitat.

Perhaps this news will inform the debate if the Phalarope Phence is re-established at Kelly's this year.
