With the continuing beautiful weather I take every opportunity to get out and go birding.
Today was spent in the Binalong-Bookham-Childowla area just to the northwest of Canberra.

Highlights were:
- 12 Diamond Firetails including 2 juveniles at Binalong.
- A Peaceful Dove heard near Binalong.
- A Whistling Kite near Murrumbateman.
- Some 40 Red-browed Finches at Childowla.
- Large numbers of honeyeaters along Murrumbidgee and creeks: Fuscous, White-plumed, White-
naped, Yellow-faced, Brown-headed, New Holland, Spinebill and Wattlebird.
- 18 Flame Robins at Talmo.
- A pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles up close at Talmo.
- A Eastern Shrike-tit at Childowla.
- Family of 3 Brown Treecreepers at Childowla.
- Gang-gangs, Sulphur-cresteds in their thousands!, King-Parrots, both Rosellas, Redrumps, Galahs,
  all at Childowla.
- Yellow Robins and Grey Butcherbird at Childowla.

I recommend Childowla as a great birding destination. It sits beside the mighty Murrumbidgee just below Burrinjuck and is the westernmost limit of wet forest birds in this area. Some hills still have stands of grass trees. Vegetation ranges from Grey Box, to enormous River Oaks lining the wide river, to Apple Box and other eucalypts, to Bracken and Leptospermum thickets, to pasture, and the rocky Burrinjuck ranges are a great backdrop. There is a range of birds from wet forest, dry forest, grassland, scrub and dry woodland habitats. And camping is permitted along most of the riverfront.

Cheers
Marnix
