I believe there is also a function along the lines
of
c(not) = sin u
where u is the number of degrees of the
observer from the bird relative to the far side of the tree. This
explains why birds that hang out on tree trunks such as treecreepers and
woodpeckers spend a lot of time going slowly around the back of the tree but zip
across the front of it at Warp factor 9! A draft UC graph is
attached.
