Apologies for the delay replying, Julienne - my mail box was blocked for a while.

Benj and Phillip have covered all the points . As they say, it is difficult to separate them by appearance in the field so call and behaviour seem to be a better guide. I have rarely seen the skylark's crest. Last Thursday I was surprised to find three Skylarks soaring and singing - very unseasonal behaviour for the grasslands around Dunlop at least. Two were flying in close proximity with the third some distance away and I wondered if there were some territorial claims being staked. The Pipit was hopping on and off the fence as usual.
