This afternoon in a rather feeble attempt to do
something for the swift parrot survey day, I went out to Tharwa way and apart
from getting diverted to the Tharwa fair and the Namadgi visitors centre went to
a (well-known) property near there. Not a lot of birds but a flock of close to
30 Diamond Firetails (don't know the number but certainly more than 20) plus
three Crested Shrike-tits, several Brown Treecreepers and a Southern
Whiteface, all within about a quarter hectare. I thought that rather special.
Also lots of Red Wattlebirds being very mobile and White-plumed Honeyeaters but
none of the two target species. Also another Diamond Firetail in Tharwa
plus a pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles over Tharwa.
If anyone wishes to drive there, you need to
take the Point Hut road as the Tharwa bridge is closed.
