This is an observation I made a couple of months ago, back in March, but forgot to report at the time.
At the time there was an enormous collection of immature Magpie-larks hanging around the Hughes Oval and nearby. On one occasion they were being particularly perturbed by a BF Cuckoo-shrike which was doing a territorial flight out from a tall tree and gliding round a big circuit. When it came near the Magpie-larks they all went berserk and took off. I didn't realise why until I got closer and the BFCS went round again; from the front a gliding BFCS in silhouette looks remarkably like a Sparrowhawk. -- John Leonard Canberra Australia www.jleonard.net |
