The pelagic trip out of Merimbula, advertised last week, went ahead on
Sunday with 5 COG members plus mammal aficionados and assorted others.
The sea was extremely calm - too calm for seabirds but great for
sighting whales. Pilot Whales, Sperm Whales, and Oceanic Bottlenose and
Common Dolphins provided plenty of excitement. 3 spp of albatross -
Yellow-nosed, Black-browed and Salvin's; Short-tailed Shearwater;
Wilson's Storm-petrel; Fairy Prion; and lots of gannets were an added
bonus.
