I didn't think it particularly worthy of mention, but FWIW there were
about a dozen cattle egrets roosting on the island in Lake Ginninderra
last Thursday evening. No sign of them the next day so I guess they
were just passing through...
John Brannan
Well another weekend down the coast revealed what seemed to be more
Cattle Egrets migrating. This time further north between Durras and
Bawley Point I saw a lone Cattle Egret on 3 separate locations
struggling north against the strong winds over beach and headland. One
bird obviously had run out of energy and needed a short rest on the
beach at Bull Pup Beach. Minutes later it took off again, only to be
followed some 10 minutes later by another bird going in the same
direction. One bird was also seen circling over the houses at Depot
Beach.
Another 2 Cattle Egrets were at the Bungendore Sewage Ponds on the
Saturday morning.
Cheers
Marnix
