Yes, the current flurry does seem to be nearly all
brown-flanked birds. The usual abundance of grey-flanked
nesters ('commonest bird in Canberra gardens') may have deserted us for
moister conditions towards the coast. Perhaps the species is a
good indicator of the location of the isohyet - or of the drying of
Canberra gardens due to water supply policies, or both.
