I agree with Philip that the Grey-backed Shrike is not a shrike, but nor is
it a shrike-thrush.
The Grey-backed Shrike is an alternative name of the Grey Butcherbird.
I had a timely reminder of this, as there was one calling in Cook for about
an hour this morning, a new addition for the home list.... unfortunately,
it had stopped by the time that I left for walk, so I couldn't add it to my
'walking to work' list.

The earlyish morning here on the lower slopes of Gossan Hill has just been
enhanced by a very vocal Grey Butcherbird (53rd species for my site this
year). I didn't get a good look at it as it was chased off by one of the
local goon squad of magpies. This led me to wonder if Canberra's magpies
are more aggressive than those of Sydney etc and whether this might
contribute to the low recording rate of butcherbirds here?
