Isn't there an old record (possibly the first for the ACT) of John Calaby's in the 1950s? Listed in one of the White & Lamm papers. These birds evidently get around - I saw an adult with three downy chicks late in 2004 crossing a road near The Rock, NSW. This was in open farming land a long way from water of any sort.
