A late am visit failed to produce a
sandpiper but I did have prolonged views of both Spotless and
Baillon's Crakes (1 of each) feeding in the open in the channel, a 2nd Spotless
appeared briefly but was immediately chased off by the 1st bird. My crake
watching came to an abrupt end when a passing sparrowhawk decided to perch in a
willow directly above their feeding spot, needless to say the crakes scarpered.
Otherwise there was a Freckled Duck, a RK Dotterel at the southern end of the
swamp, and 2 immature BF Dotts with at least 4 adults.
cheers
Steve
