The Buff banded rail was still at
Kellys swamp yesterday. These Rails are true characters of the bird world, it
was feeding and walking along the SW edge of Kellys swamp, intermittently
flapping its wings, until being chased into reeds by swamp hens.
Also saw 3 Australian Shelduck,
the two 'juveniles' from before and a far better coloured 'sub-adult' or
moulting female. There were also 3 royal spoonbills, 2 had breeding plumes, 1
sacred ibis. 1 brown snake. 1 kookaburra followed the snake. 2 night
herons. 1 Long necked turtle laboriously making
its way through the mud to water, Kellys has dried out a lot in 1
day.
At Sewerage ponds saw 6 male blue
billed ducks and at least 4 females. 1 Black shouldered kite and 1 little
eagle. Benj Whitworth
