Not sure how useful this is to anyone, I suppose my bird highlight for the year is the only new one, the Cotton Pygmy-goose at Gatton, SE Qld, along with several other slightly more mid northerly than here.
 
Seeing a soaring Wedge-tailed Eagle from above, from my seat in a plane, just after ascending from Melbourne airport, towards Canberra on 7-12-04, was pretty special too. Very quick but something I have always hoped for. I always try to find, what is the first / last bird, cow, car, etc. that I see from the plane or balloon as arriving and leaving anywhere.
