under FAQs they answer the questions below, to some extent
they use insecticides as well as fungus
 
we were at Goorooyaroo on the weekend and were amazed at the number of grasshoppers there.

This comes from the debate on birding-aus about locusts.  There was an article in the C Times last week about a swarm heading towards Canberra.  My guess would be that if it does get close the ACT Government's most likely reaction will be to start spraying.
 
Later items in the thread discuss whether the sprays are toxic to birds (no clear answer was given) and express different views about how much consultation has been involved in other areas affected by the current plague.
