Just before the start of the duck hunting season 2014, six wetlands were closed
due to the presence of threatened Freckled Ducks and Blue-billed Ducks. Despite
this, duck hunters on the weekend shot at least 30 Freckled Ducks on two
wetlands. Twenty-eight were displayed outside the Victorian Premier's office
yesterday (Monday, March 17). Several more, wounded Freckled Ducks are being
tended by wildlife carers and vets.
Another 106 dead birds were collected from the two wetlands:
Eurasian Coots (6)Grey Teal (52)Black Ducks (4)Blue-winged Shovelers
(5)Pink-eared Ducks (43)Hardheads (2)Wood Ducks (4)
