The following sentence in a news report in today's Melbourne Herald Sun about the proposed sale of the Port of Melbourne is surely of concern. I was aware that a second Port Phillip Bay container port proposal had been floated but understood that it was to be outside the immediate vicinity of the Western Treatment Plant shoreline (although still having the potential for significant impacts on this RAMSAR listed site). However, "between Point Wilson and Little River near Avalon airport" puts it right in the heart of key bird habitat. I suspect a reporting error....but maybe not. Richard "Labor is keen to develop Bay West, a second container port between Point Wilson and Little River near Avalon airport; the Coalition wants to develop the Port of Hastings." _______________________________________________ Birding-Aus mailing list To change settings or unsubscribe visit: http://birding-aus.org/mailman/listinfo/birding-aus_birding-aus.org |
