Sun 2 Jun Northern Shoveler Western Treatment Plant
The Northern Shoveler is still present and this morning was in company with two dozen Australasian Shovelers in a pond on the western side of Lake Borrie. Pasting the co-ordinates -38.010602,144.565873 into Google Maps (satellite view) will identify the actual pond which is approachable from the east across the track separating the two largest Lake Borrie ponds (9 and 24).

Arctic Jaeger Elster Creek, Elwood
A rather late Arctic Jaeger was harassing Silver Gulls and even a Pacific Gull. I am not 100% sure about the identity of the bird being chased in the photo. There were also 4 Great Egrets in the Elster Creek area today that’s 4 more than usual at this site! 1 was on the Elwood Foreshore, 1 in the Elwood Canal and 2 just upstream from Glenhuntly Rd in the narrow bluestone channel). There was also a Black-faced Cuckoo Shrike next to Point Ormond hill (quite uncommon here at this time of year). Also of interest was a small pod of about 5 Burrunan Dolphins hanging around about 200m off Point Ormond for over an hour.
