Pacific Golden Plover (Pluvialis fulva) (54) 54 birds spread out across sand 
flats.

Rock Parrot (Neophema petrophila) (22) 22 birds in two flocks, maybe more 
present.

Spotted Harrier (Circus assimilis) (1) An immature bird sailing on a brisk SW 
breeze over vineyards 1km East of Aldinga village.

Location: ~2km inland at Encounter Bay

Black Falcon (Falco subniger) (1) Frequent sightings of this species over open 
paddocks at this time of year between Waitpinga and Goolwa. This particular 
sub-adult falcon was flying purposefully (hunting mode) over the daily flight 
path of feral Rock Dove flocks coming in from West Island and the second 
sighting in same area, same time of day, in a week.

km N of Emu Bay, Investigator Strait, Kangaroo Island, 17 February 2013. Very 
hot day, N wind and associated black thunderhead clouds. Snow Dennis per Chris

Banded Stilt (Cladorhynchus leucocephalus) (c1000) Old CSR Salt Lake adjacent 
to Flour Cask Bay, S coast of Kangaroo Island. Dispersed widely across lake, 
swimming, feeding, 7 February 2013.

Flesh-footed Shearwater (Puffinus carneipes) (2) Beach-washed derelicts on 
Flour Cask Bay beach, Kangaroo Island, 7 February 2013.

Eastern Reef Egret (Egretta sacra) (2) one at tidal pool, Kingscote foreshore, 
Kangaroo Island, 12 February 2013
one at Cape Rouge high tide roost, Bay of Shoals, Kangaroo Island, 12 February 
2013.

Grey Plover (Pluvialis squatarola) (32) at Cape Rouge high tide roost, Bay of 
Shoals, Kangaroo Island, 12 February 2013.

Hooded Plover (Thinornis rubricollis) (4) adult pair with two fledged 
'grey-head' immatures, Harriet River estuary, Vivonne Bay, Kangaroo Island, 19 
February 2013.

Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) (1) immature female feeding on freshly 
killed Grey Teal, Lockwood Corner, Kangaroo Island, 10 February 2013

Red-browed Finch (Neochmia temporalis) (46) larger than usual flock feeding on 
short dry pasture and fallen seeds of Drooping Sheoak trees, Karatta, Kangaroo 
Island, 16 February 2013.

Location: Tolderol Game Reserve, western shore of Lake Alexandrina.

Australasian Bittern (Botaurus poiciloptilus) (1) Just as I was packing up for 
the evening a single Bittern came in out of the evening storm clouds, flying 
against a stiff breeze with wings set and very nearly fancied my head as a 
perch!

Location: pond 9, Laratinga Wetlands, Bald Hills Road, Mount Barker

Latham's Snipe (Gallinago hardwickii) (1) Quietly feeding in full sun along the 
edge of rushes.

Still, clear morning; temp about 18, prior to a max in the high 30s.

Pond 9 has shallow water over about half its area; the rest is damp mud.

Many Black-fronted Dotterels, 5 Red-kneed Dotterels and at least a dozen 
Spotted Crakes were feeding on the mud-flats.
