Hi Everyone,
Today I encountered a puzzling call as I was working in the mangroves of the
Clyde river, in Nelligen, NSW.
I heard a twi-twi-twi-twi etc (maybe 8-10 times??) that I thought was made by a
yellow-spotted honeyeater (I have seen and heard the bird many times in FNQ
earlier this year). All in all, I heard 4 series of call and each sound of the
series was equally spaced and each series was rather stable (by this I mean not
really going up or down).
However, I never saw the bird as it was 30-40 away and we had to hit the road.
When I got back to the car and listened to a few calls and though that it was
very similar to the first YSH recording of the Morcombe (ipod version).
However, I freaked when I saw the map (When I heard the bird I already thought
"ah, I didn't know they were going so much south").
So here is the thing: I arrived in Australia a couple of months ago and I am
not used to most calls. I am wondering which bird misled me, making me think I
was dealing with a YSH.
I would really appreciate your help with this!
