Re Greg Clancy's query:
From the observations on record for Far South Coast Birdwatchers (NSW) I can
confirm Greg's recollection which was reported to us, from along the track
to Turingal Head in Bournda NP in October 2007.
Secondly, a dead bird was found on the Princes Highway on 28 August 2008,
coincidentally near the current Potoroo Palace, Animal Sanctuary, just north
of Merimbula, where the owners claimed no knowledge of the bird. This we
believe to be true.
A further unconfirmed sighting was reported on 3 March 2011 at Pambula,
behind the Tourist Park at Pambula Beach, adjoining the northern section of
Ben Boyd NP, and reported on the basis of the tail being that of a
Brush-turkey.

Subject: Australian Brush-turkey in NSW
On the topic of Australian Brush-turkey distribution in New South Wales Ian
McInnes and others observed one during the Merimbula Gould League Bird Camp
in October 2007. I can't remember the exact location but it was somewhere
near Merimbula, south coast NSW. I wondered if the observation involved
mistaken identity, but what looks like a Brush-turkey? There is nothing
really except maybe a brief glimpse of a lyrebird. The mystery was solved a
few months later when a Brush-turkey was found dead on the road in the area.
Whether it was a true wild bird or one that had been liberated or escaped
from captivity is not known. Maybe someone on the list has information on
this occurrence.
