Birdline Australia

Published sightings for the week ending 7 Oct 2012.

Fri 5 Oct Banded Stilt Hunter Estuary, New South Wales
A single immature Banded Stilt was discovered by Liz Crawford and Chris Herbert on Wednesday afternoon on the Kooragang Dykes and was subsequently seen at Stockton Sandspit. The bird was present there today and is associating with the 4000+ Red-necked Avocets. If anyone goes to try and see the bird at the sandspit PLEASE be mindful that there are ground-nesting birds in the area. The best approach is to park under the bridge near the river, walk out to the point and view the birds from there so as to not disturb anything. Best time would be about 2 hours after high tide as the Avocets (and other shorebirds) fly over from the dykes to stage at the sandspit before flying off to Fullerton Cove for the low end of the tide. This is the first Hunter Region record since 2004 and there are no records on Eremaea NSW Birdline at all.

Little Stint Roebuck Bay, Broome, Western Australia
Adult roosting at Tattler's Rocks in Roebuck Bay with other waders during high tide.
Chris Hassell et al

Sat 29 Sep Eastern Yellow Wagtail Alice Springs Waste Stabilisation Ponds, Northern Territory
Single juvenile bird was present and offering fairly distant views all afternoon until sunset at the eastern end of EP7.
Chris Watson
