About 5 Fairy Martins were seen feeding with large numbers of Welcome Swallows and a single Striated Pardalote was seen feeding on Lerps nearby.
Gio Fitzpatrick

Crested Shrike-tit Glenelg (Balmoral) State Forest
Crested Shrike-tit (4) a very handsome group I watched for 15 min as they foraged amongst foliage and bark on yellow box, best sighting this year (to have them back at this location)
Samantha Greiner

Red-capped Robin You Yangs Regional Park
Red-capped Robin, male bird on Kangaroo Plain (East Flat) near East Boundary Track.
Janine Duffy, Paul & Liz Hackett, Cameron & Rhiannon Duffy, Linda Saunders, Lynne Hocking

Sat 18 Aug White-winged Black Tern Western Treatment Plant
On the drive through the pools about half way from Lake Borrie to the Conservation ponds a lone juvenile-plumaged White-winged Black Tern flew very close past the car giving excellent views. I was surprised to see one this time of year. Other good birds around the plant included a pair of Brolgas and an adult Spotted Harrier.
Ed Williams

Swift Parrot Gilpin Park, Brunswick
A pair of Swift Parrots were roosting in a Eucalyptus tree in the park this afternoon. There are some flowering ironbarks nearby with a few Rainbow and Musk Lorikeets but I could not locate any more Swift Parrots.
Nicole Spillane and Paul Jacobson

Fri 17 Aug Hooded Robin Colquhoun State Park
Male perched on a reflector post near road in dry forest area of the park. Clear views showed hood and no visible red colour so as not to be confused with red robin species. Very unusual to see one this far south and in this sort of vegetation, but Birdata maps show Hooded Robins to occur in the area.
Tim Nickholds

Wed 15 Aug White-bellied Sea-Eagle, Fairy Martin Moodie Swamp (North of Dookie)
An immature White-bellied Sea-Eagle was seen soaring over Moodie Swamp this afternoon. Also a small number of Fairy Martins have returned for spring.
Michael Ramsey

Tue 14 Aug Australian King-Parrot Stradbroke Park, Kew East, 3102
A single female seen moving amongst the Red Box trees just south of Kew High School, Melways 45 K3. I have never seen them in Kew previously.
Martin Norvick

Common Diving-Petrel Black Rock Reserve, Barwon Heads
Common Diving-Petrel (1) Beachwashed near 42W. Identified by size (20.5 cm) and colouring (blackish above, white below) and blue feet. Nostril holes as described in Pizzey and Knight
Angus Hartshorn

Australasian Bittern, Freckled Duck Eastern Treatment Plant
Highlights include growing numbers of several waterfowl shown in red, 36 Freckled Duck, the first Australasian Bittern (an endangered species) since 2006, and the first spring returns of Horsfield’s Bronze-Cuckoos, Australasian Reed Warbler and Tree Martin, and a passing Fan-tailed Cuckoo. Also a leucistic Hardhead with a red head, which unless studied closely could at first glance be mistaken for a northern hemisphere vagrant duck such as a Pochard.
Mike Carter, Dawn Neylan, Alison Kuiter & David Stabb per M Carter

Mon 13 Aug White-bellied Sea Eagle Langwarrin Fauna & Flora Reserve
Single adult on south side of Military Track at 1340 on sunny afternoon. First sighting of this species at this location by me.

Sun 12 Aug Spotted Harrier, Black Falcon, Horsfield's Bronze-Cuckoo (early sighting) Point Henry
Also at Lake Corangamite, 400+ Banded Stilts, and on 9-8-2012 at Lake Terangpom, 150+ Pink Eared Ducks and 45 Red Capped Plover.
Bob Hughes, Jan Hughes & Hugh Campbell

Oriental Pratincole & Lewin's Rail Western Treatment Plant, Werribee
The Oriental Pratincole was in pond 4 of the Western Lagoons in the afternoon. Two Lewin's Rail seen near mouth of Little River (with many Buff-banded Rails and Australian Spotted Crakes).
John Barkla, Fred Smith & Alison Street

Golden Whistler Beach Road, on the corner & just west of Point Wilson Rd, Western Treatment Plant
I don't recall seeing this species before at the treatment plant. Also unusual was the fact that it was out in the open on a fence 50 metres from the nearest bushes. Also interesting that it was a bird beginning its moult into adult male plumage. Also a pair of obliging Flame Robins on same fence.
Kevin Bartram

Painted Buttonquail, Pallid Cuckoo, Black-chinned Honeyeater You Yangs
2 adult Painted Buttonquail, following up from recent sighting, on the east side of the car park. Black-chinned Honeyeaters seen around tourist centre. Very tame Crested Shriketits seen at eyelevel. On eastern entrance to park a Pallid Cuckoo heard, a nice early record.
Kevin Bartram

Cape Barren Goose Elsternwick Golf Course
A pair of Cape Barren Geese have been present on the golf course for a while and I have witnessed a few close calls with flying golf balls. This is the first record of this species in the area. It is especially unusual to see them here during the breeding season.
Gio Fitzpatrick

Fri 10 Aug Buff-banded Rail, Pink Robin Jingella Park, Ashburton
Buff-banded Rail near carpark entrance on south side and a Pink Robin near the hockey ground.
Linda Hayes

Sun 5 Aug Black-eared Cuckoo, Gilbert's Whistler, Hooded Robin Bailieston
