Sun 5 Aug Fairy Martins Serpentine
Two flocks of Fairy Martins seen near Serpentine on the Loddon Valley Highway, new spring arrivals.

Freckled Duck, Barn Owl Western Treatment Plant, Werribee
A single Freckled Duck was seen on Lake Borrie this morning, and on the way there we flushed a Barn Owl from Moonah trees along Paradise Rd near the intersection with Chirnside Rd.

Being enthusiastically mobbed by a White-eared Honeyeater.

Sat 4 Aug Malleefowl Murray-Sunset NP
One, possibly two Malleefowl 15 kmwest of Last Hope gate intoMurray-Sunset via Hattah at 3PM. Saw Mallefowl tracks 2km further west also. Then nearly ran over a Malleefowl on highway at Bronzewing Flora and Fauna Reserve south of Ouyen.

This afternoon an Osprey seen flying over Lake Eildon near Bonnie Doon.

Fri 3 Aug Australasian Shoveler Blackburn Lake
Male (2) + female (1) swimming together from middle of lake to northern end. Not seen today 5/8.

Freckled Duck and Blue-billed Duck Coolart Wetlands & Homestead
3 Freckled Duck on the lagoon. 4 male and 1 female Blue-billed Duck also on the lagoon and 2 male and 1 female Blue-billed Duck on the wetlands.

Tue 31 Jul Hooded Plover St Andrews Beach
Hooded Plover (25). East of Paradise Rd car park. A group of 6 adults feeding on 'grass' covered rock platforms. Two 'family' groups of 9 and 10 respectively along the beach. Included many juveniles and many with tags. Also a trail of running emu footprints along the beach.

Pink Robin 15 Foster Street, St Kilda
A female Robin was foraging in a small row of Lilly Pillies in someones front yard. This is quite unusual for an urban street.

Mon 30 Jul Buff-banded Rail and Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater Elsternwick Golf Course
A single rail was seen on an open grassy area of the course near the creek. A pair of Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters was also seen further down stream.

Fri 27 Jul Brown Songlark Avalon
Avalon Saltworks - restricted area; Brown Songlark heard calling strongly about 3:15pm in afternoon sun after rain showers and wind eased. An early record for a spring migrant. Bird not located but distinctive unmistakable call clearly heard over two 5 minute periods. Also total 22 Blue-winged Parrots mainly west of Dandos Rd; numerous Banded Stilts and Red-necked Avocets visible from unrestricted area behind beach huts.

Oriental Pratincole, Blue-winged Parrot Western Treatment Plant, Werribee
Oriental Pratincole Single Bird flushed near Summer Lagoon 2, and flew to Western Lagoon area, where it could not be re-located. Blue-winged Parrot Approx 12 at the Spit, and 6-8 in paddock north of Summer Lagoon 2.
