Yes.  I agree the two birds are Red Knots.

They are a very interesting sighting. I agree that the engraved leg flag looks to be yellow, which means that it was banded in Roebuck Bay at Broome. Any chance that you can read the letters? It looks like a two letter code, which would make it an old resighting.

There have been some records of birds banded in Broome being resighted in Victoria, and vice versa. I am not aware of any records of birds stopping over between the two sites.

So if you can record the engraved letters, then please report them to the AWSG. If you Google AWSG, you will find the Australasian Wader Study Group web site, and you can make the report online.
