Location: Reynella East 5161

Buff-banded Rail (Gallirallus philippensis) (1) Single bird seen at creek 
crossing , the following day found headless body of bird.

Date: Sunday, July 17, 2011

Location: Elder Park, Adelaide

Southern Boobook (Ninox boobook) (1) On the fence on the southern shore of the 
Torrens Lake, only a few metres west of the King William Road bridge.  We were 
able to sit and watch from a bench only 5m away for at least ten minutes; 
another couple even walked between us and the owl.  Eventually it took a couple 
of short flights along the fenceline then disappeared across the lake.

Location: Strzelecki track

Banded Whiteface (Aphelocephala nigricincta) (7) A 3-whiteface day: 2 
Chestnut-breasted at Mt Lyndhurst, 7 Banded Whiteface (actively foraging) in 
the white sand dunes (photos see link below), and 2 Southern Whiteface at one 
of the many creek crossings.

Thick-billed Grasswren (Amytornis textilis) (6) Mt Lyndhurst. Also Rufous 
Fieldwren present.

Letter-winged Kite (Elanus scriptus) (2) One adult and one immature 
Letter-winged Kite observed at nest site. Photos see link below.

I guess this proves that Road and Rail don't mix !!!  Sorry about that !!

Location: Angas River, Strathalbyn

Black-chinned Honeyeater (Melithreptus gularis) (2) 2 were foraging in River 
Red and SA Blue Gums along the Angas River,adjacent to the Langhorne Creek 
Road. A pair of Crested Shrike Tits were also in the area.

Date: Friday, July 22, 2011

Location: Aldinga Washpool.

Buff-banded Rail (Gallirallus philippensis) (1) Seen crossing the road today 
but along the southern water line on a previous day.

Black-fronted Dotterel (Elseyornis melanops) (6) Seemed to prefer the roadside 
today, flew each time a car came by and then landed back on the road again.

Australian Spotted Crake (Porzana fluminea) (3) Seen feeding along the edges of 
reeds, each side of the road.  One photographed swimming from one clump of 
reeds to another.

The Washpool is very full of water and draining out to sea.  Good bird variety 
there but only large numbers of Duck and Starlings.

Location: Port Germain Gorge western end sFR

Rufous Songlark (Cincloramphus mathewsi) (1) Somewhat unusual at this time of 
year.  Seen & heard in the little park at the junction of Port Germain Road and 
the unsealed road which heads towards Tellowie Gorge.

Location: Milang

Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) (12) A group of 12 Cattle Egret feeding in the 
Milang Snipe Reserve. The only other birds present were one Black-winged Stilt 
and one Masked Lapwing.

Royal Spoonbill (Platalea regia) (3) Three Royal Spoonbill, together with three 
Great Egret, three Little Pied Cormorant and one White-faced Heron in dead tree 
on island opposite shacks in Milang Bay.
