Monday, November 29, 2010 to Sunday, December 5, 2010:

Date: Sunday, November 28, 2010

Location: On our Rockleigh property, in the remnant scrub

Rainbow Bee-eater (Merops ornatus) (1) A single bird was sitting in a 
Eucalyptus porosa with a very large dragon fly in its bill. This is the first 
sighting on our property.

Date: Monday, November 29, 2010

Location: Greenfields Wetlands

Sharp-tailed Sandpiper (Calidris acuminata) (1) Single bird feeding alone on 
small mudflat

Marsh Sandpiper (Tringa stagnatilis) (1) Single bird feeding alone in small 
bushes near waters edge

Nankeen Night Heron (Nycticorax caledonicus) (7) 3 adults and 4 juveniles 
flushed at north eastern corner of walking track. Flew south, didn't see if 
they turned around and returned or not.

07:00 - 08:00

Not much in the way of waders due to high water levels, plenty of Pied Stilts 
though.

Also saw a possible Peregrine Falcon or Australian Hobby (only seen from behind 
at a fair distance) sitting on powerline above bird hide.

Date: Tuesday, November 30, 2010

Location: Lower Murray Lakes and Coorong

Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) (5000) Approximately 5,000 Great 
Cormorants in one mob both flying and congregating in a tight group on the edge 
of Lake Alexandrina on the Wellington Road adjacent Boggy Lake. They all flew 
off in one mass towards the centre of the lake.

Australian Shelduck (Tadorna tadornoides) (10000) The lower lakes and the 
Coorong have large numbers of Australian Shelduck. A big mob of 3,000 was seen 
on the Narung Road west of Lake Albert resting in paddocks. A further 7,000 
were also seen from McFaydens Point at Salt Creek and south down the Coorong.

The lower lakes and Coorong are more or less full. More details and photos can

Location: North Adelaide near Aquatic Centre

Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus funereus) (5) These have been 
around for some days in the parklands to the east and west of the Centre.

Date: Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Location: Sir Richard Peninsula

Pacific Golden Plover (Pluvialis fulva) (1) 24 counted on small 
samphire-covered mud island opposite Murray Mouth Road. Probably more concealed 
by vegetation.

Gull-billed Tern (Gelochelidon nilotica) (1) Four in nonbreeding plumage 
opposite Mills Road.

The most prolific of the migratory waders were >1000 red-necked stints, 
concentrated around the mud islands near Chapel Road. No sharp-tailed or Curlew 
sandpipers were seen. Bar-tailed godwits (total <20), and greenshanks (total 
<15) were widely scattered in singles or small groups of <8. Two Eastern 
curlews, one limping badly, were feeding on a mud island, near Chapel Road. Two 
pied and 3 black-faced cormorants were observed amid abundant little black and 
great cormorants. Approximately 10 fairy terns in singles or pairs from Beacon 
19 to the Murray Mouth.

Location: Dry Creek salt fields

Eastern Curlew (Numenius madagascariensis) (6) Six birds flew in from the west 
settling on mudflats about 100m west of western track.

Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) (1) One , possibly two (rain and poor visibility) 
seen with Curlews
