Martin (2 - a few over-wintered), Australian Reed-Warbler (2 -

        Olive-backed Oriole, Fan-tailed Cuckoo, Yackandandah
Fan-tailed Cuckoo calling early this morning, followed by a series of
species that should not have been in the garden, including White-browed
Woodswallow, Rufous Whistler and a possible Lyrebird!! This made me get
out of bed, however I soon found the culprit - an Olive-backed Oriole in
the Claret Ash! Where has it been travelling to pick up this odd
assortment of species?
Matt Weeks

Sat 31 Jul Regent Honeyeater Chiltern Mt Pilot National Park
(Chiltern)
Single bird well seen on Green Hill Road, about 100m east of Pipeline
Track. The bird was initially seen on a tree branch above the road with
some White-naped and Fuscous Honeyeaters. It appeared to have no leg
bands, so presumably a wild bird and not a released one. The bird was
flighty and was soon flushed into the trees to the north of Green Hill
Road. As we approached it again, it flushed further and could not be
relocated.
Paul Dodd & Ruth Woodrow

Brush Bronzewing Long Hollow Reserve, Beaumaris
As in my report of 13/7, one feeding under the Cherry Ballart trees by
Gareth Avenue. I said it was a female but a yellowish tinge on the
forehead along with the extensive chestnut shoulders suggest it is
probably an immature male.
Michael Norris

another tree, male followed soon after but landed in a different tree.
He perched there and preened himself for some minutes, remaining quite
calm as we watched and photographed. Finally he flew off as well. (2).

3 birds seen near road. Male and female easily identified, but a
persistent begging call of third bird suggested a juvenile, but this
could not be confirmed by sight. Significant amount of "chewings" under
allocasuarina.

Bush-stone Curlew City Park Wimmera township
These birds were photographed in a park at a south west wimmera town
today. Surprisingly to me they were only about 1/2k from the town centre
in a park with heavy pedestrian traffic and a lot of houses nearby. I
haven't posted the town or location as yet because I believe the birds
were nesting and could be easily disturbed.

Shearwater sp. ? Lakes Entrance and Lake Tyers Ocean
Tens of thousands of Shearwaters rafting and travelling along the
coastline in a westerly direction from Lake Tyers. Unsure if sp. is
Fluttering or Short-tailed. Very early arrival if it is the later sp.
into Victoria from Alaska. Definitely worth a look.
