The weekend spent at Inskip Pt produced some good birds despite
the hundreds of campers, trucks, boats, barges, buses, dogs ect
Black-breasted Button Quail, as usual. 9 in total, a group of 4 –
2 males, 2 females - 2 pairs and a single female seen by walking
quietly and
stopping often. All in the bush at the end of the point - both
sides of the track to the beach.
Sanderling, at the tip – 2 seen well at high tide – as described
by previous observer, thanks!
Double-banded Plovers (~20) here as well.
White-winged Black Tern -1 – in moult. First ‘scoped on the
little sand island inside the mouth, it then moved to the beach
on the point and eventually left to feed off shore on the
dropping tide.
Rose Robin – a pink breasted bird, a first at Inskip for me,
along with Fairy Gerygones, a pair, overhead in my campsite.
Surprising number of Varied Trillers (8 together at one point)
and a fleeting glimpse of a Noisy Pitta in the bush at the point.
Sooty Owl (1), Owlet Nightjars (5+) and a Boobook in Cooloola NP
Tried for Ground Parrot and Emu-wren – no sign of either - I’ve
never seen that spot so quiet!
Cheers
