Hi all

Just back from a couple of weeks
celebrating Christmas with my parents at Crystal Creek, near Murwillumbah on
the NSW North Coast. Though mainly a family holiday (and with plenty of
rain at the end) did enough birding to keep me happy. Recorded 196 species with
71 new ones for the year.

Highlights
of the trip included:

92 species
in and around my parent’s place – including Bush-hen which once I learnt the
call recorded at a couple of locations (best view was of a single bird in
flight for about 80 metres
including seeing green on bill).

A day with
Gold Coast birders (my parents are members) in the Beechmont/Binna Burra area
which yielded me a lot of species I wasn’t expecting and saved me a trip to
Mebbin NP (the rain beat me in the end). Best bird was a White-eared Monarch,
but added a lot of species that day – thanks guys.

West Byron
treatment works – visited with Dad and despite ending in a storm saw a lot of
birds including Baillon’s and Spotless Crakes.

Mangrove
Honeyeater at Terranora Boardwalk – the first time I have recorded this species
in NSW.

Quick visits
to Crams Farm (in the rain), Flat Rock and Chikiba Lake added a few species.

Enjoy
tonight (if going out) and have a safe and happy 2010.

Cheers,

Peter
