Hi all
although I will keeping a log of my WTNT sightings across the season and
passing onto Mike Tarburton in due course, if something interesting crops up
I will report here at the time as well.
Today (Sat 12 Dec 2009) at approx 1:15pm I had a flock of approx 30 WTNTs
over my house in Turramurra (northern suburbs of Sydney). As well as the
WTNTs, there was one noticeably smaller bird in with them. While my local
Welcome Swallows sometimes mingle with the swifts, I am pretty sure this
bird was not a swallow as it was flying the same way as the other swifts
(fast gliding, not much wing flapping; swallows are generally more active in
the air than this bird), and had the same sickle wing jizz. It seemed to
pass under a WTNT, which was how I got the impression of size.
Unfortunately, the flock was quite fast moving and by the time I had got my
bins and found the flock again, I couldn't pick out the bird in question as
they had mostly gone behind the trees to the west of my house. So,
definitely worth keeping an eye out in case something interesting/unusual
has been picked up as the WTNTs made their way south.
Cheers
 Tom Wilson
