Katrina and Wim highlight some of the problems. Yes I agree that the citizens of the USA often add extra syllables to any word which already has four or more. The Germans however add an extra syllable on the end of family names so Rosaceae become ' rro SA ce ay' if educated in botany but other wise more like 'rros a ke ay'.

A Dutchman thought we could better converse by using the scientific binomials but it actually made it worse. I had a German professor of mycology who once spent most of the day and a lot of wasted energy 'correcting' my Latin. I told him that as an ignorant old Aussie bushy I was incapable of being educated but he persisted.
