At the moment there's an irruption of Scarlet Honeyeaters in the Megalong Valley (Blue Mountains NSW). We heard or saw them almost everywhere we stopped throughout the valley on 9th-10th Nov, once past the rainforest section. The only significant flowering I can see along the roadside is Thin-leaved Stringybark (E. eugenioides). There are also many Noisy Friarbirds, Little Lorikeets and other smaller honeyeaters about.

Lots of bird activity at the Old Ford Reserve where the road crosses Megalong Creek, including both Leaden and Satin Flycatchers, Dollarbird, White-throated Gerygone and a pair of White-eared Honeyeaters building a nest.

Cheers,

Carol
