Hello all

I have a left field suggestion for Anthea's strange bird call: Pied Currawong.
The currawongs around my local area (Camberwell, south of Ivanhoe, eastern
Melbourne) have some really strange calls that match the "descending single
call like 'Tiuu', or 'Tew'" as well as the answering call "beginning before the
end of the 'Tiu' call, rather rattling or clicking, like 'Kchkek!". Anthea's
call decriptions are a very close match, although the "tiuu" call isn't
repeated like a bronze-cuckoo's call note and the early morning timing is
different. I have heard the "tiuu" call from currawongs skulking in dense
foliage of trees as well as from scattered moving flocks where individuals
pause in tall deciduous exotic trees.

Cheers

George
