I am arriving in Sydney lunch time on Friday to observe the probable
American Golden Plover. High tide is 17:15, so hopefully I will have good
views in the afternoon.
I have given myself leeway, as I return on Sunday evening. So if I am
successful, then I will have the weekend to look for birds for my NSW
list. Some birds that I feel might be possible in a day visit from Sydney
are :
Black-tailed Godwit, Wood Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, Great Knot, Red
Knot, Sanderling, Grey Plover, Greater Sand Plover, Pacific Gull, Fairy Tern.
Lewin's Rail. Is it still at Bicentennial Park? Or Maroubra?
Pacific Baza, Grey Goshawk.
Striated Heron.
Great Crested Grebe, Glossy Ibis
Eastern (Common) Koel.
Scarlet Robin, Rose Robin, Satin Flycatcher, Black-chinned Honeyeater,
Olive Whistler.
Gang Gang Cockatoo, Glossy Black-Cockatoo.
Any fruit pigeon.
One option I might do is to visit Barren Grounds to look for Eastern
Bristlebird that I have only seen poorly on one visit. How long is it from
Sydney to BG? I might stay there Saturday night, so is there somewhere
close that you would recommend? Or maybe visit the Blue Mountains (or
anywhere else) to look for Rock Warbler which I have only seen once.
Any suggestions of places to see these species, and directions would be
appreciated. I do have a Garmin GPS Navigator.
