Growing up in the country a common sight was a line of dead foxes hung on
the fenceline by local sheep farmers.
These properties backed onto what is now the great otway national park,so
they where not only ridding their property of those vermin but protecting
the wildlife aswell. My young mates and I regularly went shooting with our
22 rifles.
I think there is nothing wrong with involving kids in shooting as long as
they are instructed in all aspects of safety, and the shooting is confined
to feral species and not directed to areas such as duck hunting.
The Herald-sun question is too open in that it does not make that
destinction between hunting destructive species and native wildlife.
David.
