I just wish to support John's comments also. He was kind enough to give us
the information he could and I am sure not all rarities get reported to this
site. Alex, you might find it more useful and enjoyable if you spent more
time in the field searching for your own rarities to share with us all at
your will. I saw my first confirmed Grey Falcons (a pair) last July in SW
QLD but haven't posted a trip report. I wouldn't give the location on this
site because I think they need protection from possible poachers and also
general disturbance from birders, especially during the lead up and
throughout the breeding season. I did pass on the sighting to Johnny in WA
for his research and he confirmed my sightings. I am happy to send the
photos which are not close up, but clearly GF. They were flying ahead of us
while driving on a dirt track, then dipped over the hill and landed in a
large dead tree. One bird had a prey item in its talon. I was able to take
a few snaps before they flew off. A very exciting moment for me!
