The land should be made into a reserve.  But then I recall a couple of years 
ago there was a story about a number of land owners near Bunderberg who were 
being forced into selling parts of the Turtle rookery to developers because the 
Council had rezoned the land and was charging the land owners ridiculous rates 
for unimproved land.  Again, the land should be purchased by Government to 
preserve the Turtle rookery just as the bird habitat should be preserved.

I've personally seen Koala habitat on the Gold coast cleared for industrial 
development and housing.  There was apparently legislation that required trees 
to be planted if there were Koalas (as though that would help), but nobody 
bothered to survey the area.  The bandicoots went along with the trees as well, 
and doubtless a lot of bird habitat.
