Hi all, after hearing about Scott Henderson's sighting of a pair of Crimson Chats at Sydney Park, I was eager to get over there and have a look. Annoyingly, a lunch with friends had been organised for Monday, but it was canceled when they called saying they were sick. I convinced my dad to drive me to Sydney Park to have a look and we reached Sydney Park at 9:15am. I had never been to the park before and was suprised at the amount of birdlife which showed. We walked around the South-east side of the park seeing quite a few waterbirds- Hardhead, White-faced Heron and Dusky Moorhen, but we soon found Clamorous Reed-Warbler in the reeds around the main pond and also a Black-fronted Dotterel wich flew low over the main pond calling. After about half-an-hour of searching, all we had to show was a large flock of Nutmeg Mannikins and a pair Australasian Grebes. So we headed back towards the car. On the way back we walked along the western side of the main pond where we found some small wattle trees, which was where the chats had been seen previously. Upon walking around the wattles we found another flock of Nutmeg Mannikins and after a minute of searching out came a beautiful male Crimson Chat! He began feeding on the ground below a wattle until he saw us, he then flew over to another wattle, where he was joined by his mate. We then watched them feeding under a wattle for about five minutes until they flew off. If anyone would like exact details to where we saw them I would be happy to reply. Here's to ANOTHER SYDNEY VAGRANT =) Max Breckenridge, Gladesville, Sydney... P.S. Well done to Scott Henderson for finding them in the first place! =============================== www.birding-aus.org birding-aus.blogspot.com To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) to: =============================== |
