Perhaps I was too harsh, Dave.

However, this is what's known as "sovereign risk" - the right of
governments to change laws without notice. This does not rule out
compensation for these people, I assume.

But the article makes it plain that they had permission "The Parkers had
planned to import 14 Savannah Cats in November after gaining written
approval from the Federal Government and Australian Customs.". So seems
they did not act foolishly and as the government has changed its mind
(and for once in the correct way!) the Parkers have I would have thought
some grounds for feeling hard done by!

"We put our life savings into this business, this is our
livelihood and
now we are questioning how we are even going to put food on the
table in
        the future..."

Perhaps they should have investigated whether importing the
animals was
actually legal before sinking their savings.

I think it goes to show that when planning a large investment it
is
advisable to occasionally use one's brain. I wonder if these
same
people have fallen for the Nigerian "419" email scam?

It might sound a bit mean, but my symapthy levels for these
people is
close to zero. Obviously I dont agree with physical violence in
any form
agaisnt person or animal, but I am glad the Commonwealth stopped
these
        idiots.
