Dear Birders,
I spent Saturday as a volunteer guiding people around the newly opened Birds
Australia Discovery Centre at Newington Armoury in the Sydney Olympic Park at
Homebush. The Discovery Centre is open each weekend and one can use the
opportunity to stroll freely through the grounds of the armoury and the
surrounding Parklands.During the week the Armoury grounds are closed to the
public however anyone interested in using the extensive BASNA library can do so
by phoning the BA Sydney office and arranging access through security.

The Discovery Centre is intended as an information centre and educational
facility for Birds Australia in Sydney. It also operates as the Sydney Office
of Birds Australia and the Southern NSW and ACT Regional Group of BA (BASNA)
and as a workplace for the BA project officers located in Sydney.

There is a most interesting display in the Discovery Centre at the moment
dealing with the migration of Bar-tailed Godwits. The whole centre is well set
up and I thoroughly recommend Sydney birders (and visiting interstate and
overseas birders) include a visit to the Centre as part of a birding trip to
the Sydney Olympic Park.

Regards
Peter Marsh
