Surely money/resources for bird research is somewhat irrelevant in AFO's
case. The backbone of the AFO content has always been self-funded amateur
observations and research - funded institutional research is important too,
but as a percentage far outweighed by contributions from
birders/birdwatchers/naturalists.
Let's not stick the boot in to Stephen Debus with too much gusto - perhaps
few of you know how much of his time and knowledge he has devoted to keeping
ABW/AFO going over a long period. I merely expressed surprise at his
outburst, and suggested the reasons for declining AFO contributions might be
manifold and complex. I'm not in favour of giving Stephen a public flogging
- very much opposed in fact.
