Actually, we need to know if you are planning to drive from Sydney or
from Cairns.
Cairns to Iron Range would be a full day's drive. The drive to the
Iron Range can be relatively easy during the dry season when the fords
are low.
I would be interested to know if anyone has done a one-way CYP trip
and travelled out / come back by the barge that does the milk run from
Weipa to Cooktown/Cairns.
Regards, Laurie.

Hi Evan,
17 days Sydney - Iron Range - Sydney will be very rushed but doable.
We normally get to Cairns in 2.5 days from Sydney (2500km via inland
Charters Towers etc) but that still only gives you less than 2 weeks
to explore an area that deserves longer.
So many places to look at camp at etc. All depends on whether you
want to look at the areas around Cairns or not and whether you want
to get to the tip (Cape York).
Happy to offer more info (including past itineraries) if you want.
Cheers
Dave

Hi Birders,
My wife and I have 2 weeks (but will be more like 17 days) for a
holiday in the last week in June. We were originally thinking of
Darwin to Alice by 4wd (we've never been to the Territory, let alone
the Big Rock) but after seeing the parrots last night we've started
considering a trip to Iron Range NP. What are the logistics like
getting there? And any other opinions on the Darwin-Alice option? I'm
not afraid of some big driving days and consider a 1000k day totally
acceptable.
