SO MUCH was packed into such a SHORT show not surprising there were many
omissions.
Focus on 'new' or lesser known info about sp such as Palm Cockatoo, Eclectus
and Golden Shouldered Parrot, plus wonderful footage of the amazing, and
probably, often overlooked WILD Budgie - including the footage of a couple
of their predators was great. The sort of things, the majority of people,
even birders, will never get to see in the field.
At one point I thought, the script was leading into migration etc of
OBParrot, but then a less talked about (less controversial?) sp was shown -
and it was delightful to watch the Rock Parrots in action.
For WA, wasn't that the location of that fantastic doco many years back
about the parrots at 'Threeways' or similar. It was a doco on the breeding
of several relatively rare species in one area. We should ask/watch for a
replay of that.
There was also a wonderful doco, again years ago, about the research into
all the hard work of various parrots put into disassembling
telecommunications and other equipment. (Ironic if this was part of
explanation for various people's transmission problems!) Telstra, at the
time, had various bits of equipment in cages at Melbourne Zoo &/or
Healesville Sanctuary (nr Melbourne,Vic) to test out the birds abilities and
try to work out solutions.
Australia: Land of Parrots was a delightful documentary, and clearly
successful, as it left us all wanting more.
