I've only lived in Altona for 4 years and been birding for 18 months, so
I can't comment on any long term trends. I'm under the impression that
there were always more of them in Melbourne's western suburbs than in
the east (can anyone confirm that?), but I have noticed a lot more
recently.
I've been seeing several of them in my street daily where I was only
seeing one or two occasionally before. I have also had over a dozen
around my house at times, but had thought that a large area of newly
sown grass in the industrial land behind might have been the reason for
that.
