Hi David
We often have Galahs and Sulphur-crested Cockatoos feeding on our front lawn, which is mostly Kikuyu. There is no seed on the grass or the few weeds present, but when the birds have finished the lawn is littered with small tufts of grass they have pulled out. I don't know the correct botanical terms, but it is the part of the plant where several leaves emanate from, like a node or short stalk. It is light coloured (almost white) and "juicy". There are no roots attached, they seem to cut it off above the roots. Sometimes there is just a pair of Galahs, other times a mixed flock of Galahs and Cockatoos totalling around 20 in number. We have also noted that they seem most unconcerned by our presence, and we can slowly approach to within a couple of metres, at which point they just walk away. The Galahs especially seem to prefer to wait until the shadow of the house falls across the lawn in the afternoon, and they have a strong preference for remaining in this shaded area.
Regards
Roger.
